The Darrell Honey Memorial Fun-Fly

Saturday’s strong winds and chilly air brought everyone together to sit at the campfire, warm their fingers a bit between flights and enjoy grilled burgers and sausage prepared by our chefs.

Tina Zieman, Mike Morton and Ken Wahl Tom Boulnois. entertained us with their Fun Cub antics, fearless of the high winds on Saturday. Watching them fly reminded me of a bunch of gulls holding position in the wind and swooping down to pluck a fish from the sea, or in our case a bean from the bean field.

Donations of raffle prizes helped make the fly in a success. Amongst the contributors were Tailwinds RC Hobby Center of Cape Girardeau, Chuck’s Depot of Marion and Tower hobbies of Champagne. We would like to give a big thank you for helping us out with our Fun Fly. A few of our prizes were also donated by a couple of generous club members.

Winners of the raffle included Bill Wilkerson, Jim Tucker, Clay Simmons, Adam Bryner, Gene Farris, Eric Lyon.

Sunday the weather turned and we were treated to beautiful sunny skies, mild temperatures and calm winds. We had a lot of planes in the air that day.

Jeff Williams and his wife traveled all the way from Georgetown Indiana to attend. Jeff is a full scale pilot and an amazing RC pilot put on a fantastic 3D show for the spectators with his one of a kind soon to be produced.

A 20cc ultra stick brought about a heated silent auction that lasted till Sunday afternoon with the winner being Doug Gwaltney.

For some of us October is a time where the flying season starts to taper off. The runway grass starts to turn brown and thoughts come to mind of what my next aircraft will be. You may be looking at that new ARF you have read about and looked up on the internet, or maybe that kit that hasn’t been built yet sitting in some corner of your shop. But for some of us the cooler days of October are a welcome change and bring plenty of opportunity to get out to your field with your friends and fly.

We would like to thank all of that attended and would like to invite everyone back next year.

Happy Landings
